About our storm damage roof report in North Sheen

After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. If you’ve noticed slates and tiles blown off the roof and holes or cracks caused by debris, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Water getting into a London home frequently comes from a detail you can’t see from the street: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. For a leak or storm damage in North Sheen, those hidden details are where the inspection begins. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Honest limits

A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:

  • Negotiating a claim settlement
  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • Your insurer’s view of the claim

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Gutters and fascias

Different roofs, different checks

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles without fixings can move more easily in wind. We record what we can see of the fixings.

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge and hip tiles take the full force of the wind. We record any that have lifted, cracked or come away.

Before and after the survey

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Take photos from the ground or a window, never by climbing
  • Photograph damage inside the house too
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in

The report is emailed to you, and you decide what to send to your insurer. It is your record to use.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

Why it is worth a survey now in North Sheen

Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is normally better. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Common questions in North Sheen

Can parking be tricky for a visit in North Sheen?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.

Do you cover North Sheen?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We’re not loss adjusters, and we don’t negotiate claims. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.

How the survey works

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Storm damage roof reports around North Sheen

Outer London has plenty of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. If your home in North Sheen is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. With Kew Palace about 1 mile north-west, North Sheen sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.

Homes near green spaces such as Dukes Meadows can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. Landlords with a home close to Kew Gardens station may find that a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. For businesses in and around places like Livat Hammersmith, finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
