About our thermal roof survey in Mytchett
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey commercial roofs, insulated roof spaces and pitched roof slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are damp around roof outlets and upstands and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions.
In smaller places like Mytchett, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Why get it checked now?
Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is often to open up the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. Around Mytchett, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

What we are asked to look at in Mytchett
After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
Anyone responsible for a site like Mytchett Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Their insurance cover
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
Mytchett questions
Do you cover smaller places like Mytchett?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Are there drone restrictions around Mytchett?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Farnborough Airport is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.
What happens after the survey?
The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Do I need to be at home?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access when booking.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.
What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- A formal energy assessment
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Loft conversions
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. A visit to Mytchett is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Before we arrive
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
Getting a price

Advice
Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It is your decision how to use it, whether that’s asking for work or discussing the price.
Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.
Flying and imaging in Mytchett
In Surrey, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Wanborough Manor, about 4.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Mytchett. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.
Take an older house close to Church of St Andrew: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
