Thermal roof surveys in Pixham

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

About our thermal roof survey in Pixham

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are stains that keep coming back and patches of heat loss across the roof.

Somewhere as small as Pixham, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Pixham?

Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, especially when it’s warm inside and cold outside.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Stains that keep coming back
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands

Anyone responsible for a site like The Ashcombe School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What to check before booking

  • Will the report include photos?
  • What insurance they carry
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Whether VAT is added on top

What a roof survey includes

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Pixham

There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Pixham. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Historic houses like Polesden Lacey, about 2.6 miles north-west, show how far back building around Pixham goes. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. The streets around a church such as Pixham Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Pixham is about 1 mile north-east of Dorking, in Surrey. Roofs in Pixham get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Surrey. Our Surrey coverage includes Pixham and the places around it. We also survey roofs in Crawley.

Surveys in RH4 and RH5 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include London Road, Leslie Road and Pixham Lane, all of which we cover. Nearby, we also carry out thermal roof surveys in Dorking (1 mile south-west), Westhumble (1 mile north-west), Ranmore Common (2 miles west), North Holmwood (2 miles south) and Mickleham (2 miles north). We also work in nearby towns such as Guildford (11 miles west), Woking (12 miles north-west), Epsom (7 miles north), Horley (8 miles south-east), Redhill (7 miles east) and Ewell (8 miles north).

What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • A formal energy assessment
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

How the survey works

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere like Pixham needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Why get it checked now?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Around Pixham, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What you get with us

  • An independent look at the roof
  • 98% of clients satisfied
  • More than 20 years surveying roofs
  • Professional indemnity and public liability insurance

How the survey changes by roof type

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. That makes the survey more focused.

Loft insulation

From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.

Pixham questions

Is Pixham within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Pixham?

Yes, Pixham is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Pixham as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Do I need to be at home?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access when booking.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What does the report include?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. What it shows depends on the weather and the roof. Where it can’t be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.
