Thermal imaging roof survey in White City, Greater London
Thermal roof surveys in White City and the rest of Greater London. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Water that travels before it shows
- Heat escaping through the roof
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in White City
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
With Leighton House about 1.3 miles south-east, the area around White City has a long history. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
Questions to ask before you book
- What insurance they carry
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
About our thermal roof survey in White City
Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are often harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. We survey ceilings below the roof, commercial roofs and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are water getting in at parapets and stacks and patches of heat loss across the roof.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

What happens if roof problems are left?
The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Questions from White City
How do I find out if my home in White City is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in White City?
Parking in White City, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available as you book.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?
It records surface temperature across the roof. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
Can I check my roof myself?
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
When you need someone else
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- An energy rating for the building
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Confirming water without moisture readings
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Insulated roof spaces
- Pitched roof slopes
- Ceilings below the roof
- Commercial roofs
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. For a visit in White City, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. On the day, the roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Let us know about parking near the property
Book a survey
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Advice
Thermal roof surveys in White City: local notes
Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Within a mile and a half or so of White City there are several hotels, and like offices and blocks, hotels frequently sit under flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
For hotels and guest houses around White City, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. Shop and office owners around Westfield London may find that large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.
