About roof surveys in W10
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have seen a mark on a ceiling or bits of tile in the garden, while others just want to know where they stand. The approach is the same in each case: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, so finding a time is rarely difficult. Common reasons to book are crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching and standing water on a flat roof, across natural slate, ridges, hips and valleys and lead flashings.
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof.
- You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
- A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
- We check the roof from each safe vantage point, inside and out.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- We email a report with photos and recommendations.
How our prices work

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across W10
In W10, our roof surveys work takes in owners, landlords and managing agents, in Kilburn, Notting Dale and Kensal Town and well beyond. Each report sets out what was seen, with photographs and recommendations.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, and W10 is part of that. Housing here runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates.
Kensal Town: If you look after a building such as St Thomas' CofE Primary School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Thomas Kensal Town, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.
Roof by roof
Lead flashings and valleys
Most leaks begin at a joint rather than the middle of a slope. That is why we check them closely.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Ridge and verge mortar on concrete tile roofs can crack and fall away. We check for loose ridge tiles and missing mortar.
Useful tips for W10 property owners
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep the report with your property records
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
File the report with your other home documents. It is a useful baseline for future surveys, and it can help when you sell.
Plan a roof survey every few years, or sooner after severe weather. Regular checks catch problems while they’re small. Compare each report with the last.
For landlords and managing agents
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed beforehand. Surveys run seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time.
Leave it or get it looked at?
It is easier to plan roof work than to react to it. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than waiting for something to fail.
What to check before booking
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- What follow-up you get after the report
- What they won’t be able to tell you
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
What this survey cannot tell you
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- A structural engineer’s report
W10 questions
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
What do you check on a roof survey?
Every part of the roof we can safely see: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
Do you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft, and Premium includes a drone where applicable.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and the Standard and Premium packages include a structural check. It doesn’t include structural calculations, which need an engineer.
Do you work in W10?
Yes, we do. We carry out roof surveys in W10.
What if it rains on the day?
A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
