Roof surveys across NW6

Our roof survey service in NW6

Roofs vary a lot across London and South East England. If your home is a Victorian terrace, it may have Welsh slate, a butterfly roof and parapet gutters, while many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles. Whatever yours has, the survey is adapted to it. Older tiled homes may have clay plain tiles, and many homes have a flat-roofed extension too. Each part is checked in the way that suits it. We survey clay and concrete tiles, lead flashings and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters.

We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
  5. The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.

Homes and roofs across NW6

From Hampstead, Kilburn and West Hampstead to its smaller places, buildings across NW6 have roofs of every age. Chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters are usually where the work is.

Autumn and winter storms across the South East find any loose slate, tile or ridge. Ridges, verges and flashings in NW6 are where it usually shows.

Kilburn: If you look after a building like Salusbury Primary School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you own a rental within reach of Queens Park (London) station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Prices for roof surveys in NW6

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Roof area

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

What to let us know when you get in touch

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • When you need the report by
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.

What a survey doesn’t cover

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
  • A promise that the roof will not leak in future

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Tips that help

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Keep the report with your property records
  • Check the roof from the ground after storms
  • Keep a record of damp patches and dates
  • Find records of any re-roofing or repairs

The recommendations are prioritised by urgency where relevant. Some faults need dealing with soon, while others can wait for planned work. It makes the next steps much clearer.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear of leaves and moss, particularly after autumn. Leave the clearing to a professional. Clear gutters prevent a lot of damp.

NW6 questions

How soon is the report ready?

The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photographs.

How long does the visit take?

On site, it typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. Where materials might contain it, we say so in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?

Not as an exact number, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.

Will you check the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
