Drone Roof Survey in Angel

We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Angel, and put it all in a report with photos.

  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

Need a drone roof survey in Angel?

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Drone roof survey in Angel

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a written report with photographs. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. If you are worried about damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors alike.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Angel as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Practical tips

You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Why it is worth a survey now in Angel

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It is useful for planning maintenance over the years. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Why us?

  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Two decades and more of roof surveys
  • A written report with photos

Angel questions

Is parking a problem for a survey in Angel?

Parking in Angel, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Angel?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. The restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 2 miles from Angel. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it is granted. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you work in Angel?

Yes. We survey roofs in Angel and the rest of Greater London, as part of our work across London and the South East. To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

How experienced are you?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

What’s in the report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Drones, thermal imaging and Angel roofs

Angel is about 2 miles from the restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. Dr Johnson's House, about 1.2 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Angel. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St John Evangelist RC Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to St Mark's Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Angel is about 1 mile north-east of St Pancras, in Greater London. We cover Angel and the rest of Greater London. Angel is one of the towns and villages in Greater London where we work for drone roof surveys.

We survey roofs across N1, N1P and EC1V for drone roof surveys. Streets in the area include City Road, Noel Road and Dewey Road, all of which we cover. With the A501 close by, Angel is easy for us to reach. We also cover Pentonville (1 mile north-east), Clerkenwell (1 mile south), Islington (1 mile north), St Pancras (1 mile south-west) and Kings Cross (1 mile west). Larger places within reach include Kensington (5 miles south-west), Walthamstow (5 miles north-east), Hampstead (3 miles north-west), Ruislip (13 miles west), Brompton (4 miles south-west) and Stockwell (4 miles south).

How it works

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a London area like Angel, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Angel

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Angel, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
