Drone roof survey in East Ham

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. Common reasons to book are ponding and splits on a high flat roof and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, on valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks.

In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

How we price drone roof surveys

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What to let us know when you contact us

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price before you book.

Landlord and commercial surveys in East Ham

Letting agents and landlords in East Ham book surveys as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

Common roof problems in East Ham

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

Take a building like St Michael's Catholic Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • When you will get the report

Drone roof surveys in East Ham: local notes

East Ham is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

For a London address like East Ham, it’s useful to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space. Historic houses like Eastbury Manor House, about 1.9 miles east, show how far back building around East Ham goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

East Ham is about 5 miles south-east of Walthamstow, in Greater London. We carry out drone roof surveys for householders, landlords and businesses in East Ham and nearby. We cover towns and villages across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages. London is in our area too.

East Ham questions

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in East Ham?

Sometimes, yes. If East Ham has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer, and a driveway is even better.

Is drone flying allowed in East Ham?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. The flight restriction zone around London City Airport covers East Ham, or comes right up to its edge. We ask the airport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in East Ham moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, tell us who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Why act early in East Ham

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Useful tips for East Ham property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
