Fingest Drone Roof Survey
Drone roof surveys in Fingest and the rest of Oxfordshire. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Flashings that have come away
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
How a drone roof survey works in Fingest
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you are worried about coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters alike.
Villages like Fingest often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Drones, thermal imaging and Fingest roofs
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Bartholomew, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Cadmore End CofE School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
Fingest is about 5 miles north-west of Marlow, in Oxfordshire. We carry out drone roof surveys for householders, landlords and businesses in Fingest and nearby. Fingest is one of the towns and villages in Oxfordshire we cover for drone roof surveys. There is also a page for Reading.

Roof by roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it is plain to see from the air.
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.
Why get it checked now?
A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It is useful for planning maintenance over the years. For older village homes like those around Fingest, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- Roof area
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
Getting a price is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, tell us about the property and we will recommend the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking.
What we do, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It typically takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Fingest, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Fingest: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Fingest is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Is Fingest within the area you cover?
Yes, Fingest is covered. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
We take care around neighbouring homes. We photograph your roof, not your neighbours’ property. It is worth telling neighbours about the flight.
What if it’s windy or raining on the day?
Bad weather means no flight. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so we’d move the date with you.
Is your drone operator registered?
We are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
How long does the visit take?
It usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Fingest
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
People typically book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Flashings that have come away
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
Historic houses like Stonor Park, about 2.5 miles south-west, show how far back building around Fingest goes. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Which limits apply to the survey
- What insurance they carry
