Tips from our surveys

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

About our drone roof survey in Furzeley Corner

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Common reasons to book are outlets choked with leaves and silt and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, on tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks.

In a small place like Furzeley Corner, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

Airspace, weather and Furzeley Corner roofs

Furzeley Corner lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

In and around Furzeley Corner, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early. Take a building like Denmead Junior School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Furzeley Corner

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Furzeley Corner?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Furzeley Corner within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

How long does the survey take?

Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We’ll confirm the timing as you book.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

The survey, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Furzeley Corner often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
