How a drone roof survey works in Hart Plain
We carry out drone roof surveys in Hart Plain and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and debris building up in hidden gutters.
In smaller places like Hart Plain, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

What we’re asked to look at in Hart Plain
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
Take a building like Hart Plain Infant School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
Useful tips for Hart Plain property owners
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
Airspace, weather and Hart Plain roofs
Hart Plain is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. About 4.5 miles south-east lies Warblington Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Hart Plain has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near The Hart Plain Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Hart Plain is about 1 mile north of Waterlooville, in Hampshire. Bookings from Hart Plain are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Across Hampshire, we cover Hart Plain and the places around it. Our Portsmouth page covers surveys nearby.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Hart Plain
Do you cover smaller places like Hart Plain?
Yes, Hart Plain is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in Hart Plain listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
How long does the visit take?
Allow roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We will give you an idea of timing when booking.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

What else we do in Hart Plain
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a smaller place like Hart Plain, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
