About our drone roof survey in Greenhill

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We are often asked to look into loose ridge and hip tiles and debris building up in hidden gutters, across flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

For landlords and managing agents

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed in advance. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.

Drones, thermal imaging and Greenhill roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Greenhill has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

Parking in Greenhill, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier, as a space near the door cannot be promised. 2 Willow Road lies about 0.3 miles north-east, so building around Greenhill goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Greenhill is about 1 mile north-east of Hampstead, in Greater London. Bookings from Greenhill are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. We cover towns and villages across Greater London, large and small.

Surveys in NW3 and NW6 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Back Lane, Well Road and Ornan Road and the roads around them. We also cover Hampstead (1 mile south-west), Vale of Health (1 mile north), West Hampstead (1 mile west), Fortune Green (1 mile west) and Haverstock (1 mile south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover London (5 miles south-east), City of Westminster (3 miles south), Marylebone (3 miles south-east), Kensington (4 miles south), St Pancras (3 miles south-east) and Shoreditch (5 miles south-east).

Near you in Greenhill

Around Greenhill, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Cecil Sharp House, Fitzjohn's Primary School and King William IV Public House, among other places. Other local landmarks include South Hampstead High School (0.6 miles south) and Hampstead Heath (0.7 miles north-east). There’s a railway station in Greenhill itself: Hampstead Heath station. Nearby you’ll also find New End Hospital (within half a mile north-west) and Montfichet's Tower (4.3 miles south-east). For a walk, there is Belsize Wood and Parliament Hill.

How it works

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report. On timing, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. From the street, a London terrace usually shows only its front slope or parapet, so a visit in Greenhill moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Tips that help

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns

We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Why act early in Greenhill

Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. Our report shows the condition of each area, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How big the roof is
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the exact price before booking.

Booking your survey

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • What’s prompted the survey

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Greenhill: your questions answered

Is parking a problem for a survey in Greenhill?

Usually it is manageable with a little notice. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Is drone flying allowed in Greenhill?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Greenhill?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It depends on the weather and the survey. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.
