Drone roof survey in Vale of Health
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We are often asked to look into plant growth and moss on the roof and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy, in Vale of Health as anywhere. Let us know about the building and access when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Vale of Health
Are there drone restrictions around Vale of Health?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is my home in Vale of Health listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when you book.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
The survey, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. For a visit in Vale of Health, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at what can safely be seen from the ground, windows, the loft and, where it is safe, the roof itself.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Check pets are kept safely away
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
Booking a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Advice
What happens if roof problems are left?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

How we price drone roof surveys
We confirm the price for your survey before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What you can safely check yourself
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Drones, thermal imaging and Vale of Health roofs
The wider area around Vale of Health has a long history of building, with Heath House about 0.1 miles west. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up.
Take an older house close to Christ Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Parking in Vale of Health, as in most of London, takes a little planning: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway as you book, as a space near the door cannot be promised.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Vale of Health
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Christ Church Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
