What a drone roof survey looks like in Childs Hill
Childs Hill has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, frequently have flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Historic houses like Heath House, about 0.7 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Childs Hill goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take an older house close to All Saints: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings like All Saints' CofE Primary School NW2, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Hotels and guest houses near Childs Hill can’t easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do.

Drone roof survey in Childs Hill: what you get
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. Common reasons to book are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and loose ridge and hip tiles, on fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy, in Childs Hill as anywhere. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building as you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
After the visit, you get a report with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Checking the roof from the ground
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Why it is worth a survey now in Childs Hill
On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Childs Hill
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How big the roof is
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Tall and steep roofs
What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
How the survey works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes between one and two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Surveys in Childs Hill can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
Arrange a survey
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.

Childs Hill questions
Is parking a problem for a survey in Childs Hill?
It can be, so it’s useful to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Childs Hill?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
