Drone roof survey in Hensting, Hampshire
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Hensting from an independent roof surveyor. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
What we do, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older roofs in small places like Hensting can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Note where any stains or damp appear
Arrange a survey

How a drone roof survey works in Hensting
Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed moss and weeds taking hold up top and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a small place like Hensting, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How the survey changes by roof type
Valleys and parapet gutters
Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.
Hensting questions
Is Hensting within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Are there drone restrictions around Hensting?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport comes within about 2 miles of Hensting. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How soon will I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. Points are put with the most urgent first where relevant.
Does the weather affect the survey?
A survey can usually go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we will arrange another day with you.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
When you need someone else
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- A structural engineer’s report
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Hensting
The flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport comes within about 2 miles of Hensting. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.

When to book a survey in Hensting
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Trinity, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Questions to ask before booking
