Drone roof surveys in Little Ann

Drones, thermal imaging and Little Ann roofs

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Abbotts Ann Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Little Ann is about 2 miles south-west of Andover, in Hampshire. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Little Ann can all book drone roof surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Little Ann is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work for drone roof surveys. We also survey roofs in Southampton.

Surveys in SP11 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Drone roof survey in Little Ann: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Little Ann and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We’re frequently asked to look into moss and weeds taking hold up top and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, on fragile roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors.

In a small place like Little Ann, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Common roof problems in Little Ann

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

People typically book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary the Virgin: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

What to check before booking

  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance

What’s in a roof survey

Why get it checked now?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see. You can tackle the urgent items first. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Little Ann, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What you get with us

  • More than 5,000 surveys completed
  • Weekday and weekend surveys

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is normally out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

What we do, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. It usually takes an hour or two at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere as small as Little Ann, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Little Ann questions

Are there drone restrictions around Little Ann?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you come out to Little Ann?

Yes. Little Ann is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

What’s in the report?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Letting agents and landlords in Little Ann book surveys as well as householders. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
