Burdrop Gutter Survey
A careful look at the gutter at your property in Burdrop, with photographs and a written report.
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Choked outlets or hopper heads
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
How the survey changes by roof type
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Long metal gutter runs on larger buildings can hide blocked outlets, so we check the outlets carefully.
Cast iron gutters
Lots of period homes still have cast iron rainwater goods. Kept painted, they can last a long time but corrode once the paint wears off.
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Burdrop
Gutters carry rain off the roof and away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t and that normally means the walls or the inside of the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, including gutters, valleys, outlets, hoppers and downpipes. You get a written report with photos. Typical surveys look at downpipes that are split or coming away and water backing up from a hidden gutter, on eaves gutters, parapet and box gutters and fascias and soffits.
Somewhere as small as Burdrop, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it’s usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
The report records the gutter as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What a survey costs
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- House, block, shop or office
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Roof area
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Older roofs in small places like Burdrop can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
Book a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Advice
Honest limits
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
- Underground drains, which need a CCTV drain survey
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

FAQs for Burdrop
Will you come out to Burdrop?
Yes, Burdrop is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Burdrop is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?
Overflowing gutters often lead to damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Will you check the drains below ground?
No, we don’t carry out CCTV drain surveys. We check gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows and note any sign that the drains need checking.
What will the report tell me?
Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the gutter, any defects and our recommendations. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Gutter surveys around Burdrop
The wider area around Burdrop has a long history of building, with Broughton Castle about 3.8 miles east. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Sibford Gower Endowed Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. For an older house near a landmark like Church of Holy Trinity, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
- Don’t leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Watch the gutters during heavy rain
- Do not climb a ladder to look in the gutters
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It’s sent to you by email once it is done.
Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before damage builds up.
