Gutter survey in Hanworth, Greater London
Gutter surveys across Hanworth, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. Every survey ends with a written report and photos.
- Gutters that have fallen out of line
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
When to book a survey in Hanworth
Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. Splits and blocked outlets in these gutters can send water straight into the building, because there is no outer edge for it to spill over. Lead linings can also be stolen.
Look out for signs like these:
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Water backing up from a hidden gutter
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
If you run a business near Treaty Centre, a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions.

Gutter survey in Hanworth
A gutter needs a steady fall towards its outlet to drain properly. When brackets sag or joints part, water pools, drips and spills over at the low points. We look along each run for sags, gaps and leaking joints, along with the brackets and downpipe fixings. Recommendations are written down and prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you’re worried about gutters packed with leaves or moss and rotten fascias or stained soffits, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Many London terraces have a butterfly roof, with two slopes meeting in a central valley gutter that drains to the rear. From the street you see only a parapet wall, so blocked outlets and split linings go unnoticed until water comes through a ceiling. For a house in Hanworth with this kind of roof, the hidden gutter is one of the first things to check.
If any part of the gutter couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Hanworth
The wider area around Hanworth has a long history of building, with Strawberry Hill House about 2 miles east. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Outer London has plenty of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
The streets around a church such as St Richard's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Anyone responsible for a site like Buckingham Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Questions from Hanworth
Is my home in Hanworth listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Can a landlord with a rental near Hampton station book a roof survey?
Of course. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and the report can go straight to you or your agent.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.
Is a CCTV drain survey included?
No, we do not carry out CCTV drain surveys. The survey covers gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows and flags signs of a drain problem.
What’s the best way to book?
It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we will point you to the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
Will you check the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
How much is a gutter survey?
Our packages start from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. For a price for your building, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
- Have gutters cleared at least once a year
- Check from ground level or a window, not a ladder
- Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so a drain survey can be arranged. Anything else we notice on the roof, as far as we can see it, is noted too.
Get small faults like a dripping joint or loose downpipe sorted quickly. They tend to get worse, and the water they spill can damage walls and timber.
What affects the price in Hanworth
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Which survey package you book
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Building height and the viewpoints available
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
Booking your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- When you need the report by
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.
What we cannot see
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Parts of gutters that cannot be seen safely
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Downpipes
- Eaves gutters
- Valley gutters
- Parapet and box gutters
- Fascias and soffits
- Outlets and hoppers
Checking the roof from the ground
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
How the survey works
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.
- We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Before the survey
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
