Red Rice Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Red Rice. We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
Why get it checked now?
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. Older cottages and farmhouses around Red Rice can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.
Why choose Independent Roof Survey in Red Rice

About our thermal roof survey in Red Rice
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. It isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. Common reasons to book are ceilings that feel colder in places and stains that keep coming back, on commercial roofs, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces.
Villages like Red Rice frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters. You will see the good as well as the bad.

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- The roof’s overall size
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Drones, thermal imaging and Red Rice roofs
Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.
Anyone responsible for a site like Redrice School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

How the survey changes by roof type
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Red Rice?
After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Gaps in loft insulation
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary the Virgin are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.
What happens on the day
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Somewhere like Red Rice needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Related advice
Before and after the survey
You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- File the images with your roof records
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
