Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Surrey Quays

A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks frequently run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you’re worried about gaps in loft insulation and cold areas below the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Surrey Quays as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Surrey Quays questions

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Surrey Quays?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot.

How do I find out if my home in Surrey Quays is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

The camera does not see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Do you use drones?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.

What happens if roof problems are left?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork, which can lead to damp inside. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

What you get with us

How the survey changes by roof type

Pitched slate and tile roofs

From inside the loft, the camera can help with damp around chimneys, valleys and roof windows. We check any patterns with moisture readings.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are often hidden. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.

Honest limits

It helps to know what a survey won’t do before booking:

  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes

Flying and imaging in Surrey Quays

Surrey Quays has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, often with Welsh slate roofs. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that can’t be seen from the pavement. Lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are typical of these houses, if yours is one of them. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Katharine with St Bartholomew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you run a business near Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.

How it works

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Surveys in Surrey Quays can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Preparing for the visit

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

Common roof problems in Surrey Quays

People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. A leak may start well away from where the stain appears. The camera helps narrow the search.

  • Water getting in at parapets and stacks
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Gaps in loft insulation
  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
