Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Thorns Beach
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Typical surveys look at flashings that have come away and loose ridge and hip tiles, on flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs.
In a village or hamlet like Thorns Beach, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible.

What else we do in Thorns Beach
What you can safely check yourself
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Thorns Beach, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Take a look at what a roof survey costs and two real surveys.
Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.
The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In a hamlet or village like Thorns Beach, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Advice
Prices for drone roof surveys in Thorns Beach
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Booking your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- The address and postcode of the property
We confirm the price for your roof before you book, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Questions from Thorns Beach
Do you cover smaller places like Thorns Beach?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Thorns Beach?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
How long does the visit take?
Expect it to take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.
Are you registered with the CAA?
Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and follow the drone code.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
