How a drone roof survey works in Wapping

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a photo-illustrated written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. Typical surveys look at hidden gutters full of leaves and chimney tops in poor condition, across valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Wapping is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How it works

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit typically takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a visit in Wapping, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at everything that’s safely in view from the ground, windows, the loft and, where it is safe, the roof itself.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.

Advice

Airspace, weather and Wapping roofs

The flight restriction zone around London City Airport comes within about 2 miles of Wapping. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Within a mile and a half or so of Wapping there are several hotels, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Wapping, along with any off-street space. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Wapping, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use.

Wapping is about 1 mile south-east of Whitechapel, in Greater London. We carry out drone roof surveys for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Wapping. Our area takes in places right across Greater London, large and small.

Drone roof surveys in E1, E1W and SE16 are booked the same way as anywhere else. Whether your property is on West Lane, Tunnel Road and Glamis Road or anywhere close by, we can help. What this survey can’t tell you

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Can I check my roof myself?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

Why act early in Wapping

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. Any roof job in Wapping means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there’s time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.

Useful tips for Wapping property owners

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Wapping

Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below

For businesses in and around places such as Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs

Questions from Wapping

Is my home in Wapping listed or in a conservation area?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Wapping?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around London City Airport comes within about 2 miles of Wapping. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. The restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 2 miles from Wapping. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I book a survey in Wapping?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and a few details about the roof. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Is Wapping in your area?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, Wapping included.

How quickly is the report sent?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

How long will you be at the property?

It normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.
