Trumps Green Flat Roof Survey
Surveys of flat roofs on homes, extensions and commercial buildings across Trumps Green, with drones and thermal imaging where they help. Call or email for a price.
- Pools of water lying on the roof
- Outlets that hold water back
- Dips that suggest the deck is deflecting
What you can safely check yourself
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
Flat roof survey in Trumps Green
Ponding is often the first sign that something on a flat roof isn’t right. It can mean the falls were never right, an outlet is blocked or the deck has started to sag. The survey notes any ponding, the state of each outlet and any dips that hint at a sagging deck. Where the deck may be a structural issue, our report says a structural engineer should look at it. We survey upstands and outlets, mastic asphalt and GRP fibreglass, and people most often book us about blocked or damaged outlets and water getting in at rooflights.
Older buildings in small places like Trumps Green may be listed or in a conservation area, and that can affect how an extension roof or dormer is re-covered. If you are planning work, check with the council first. Knowing the roof’s condition is the starting point. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the flat roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Trumps Green
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- A structural engineer’s assessment of the deck
- Whether old sheeting or boards contain asbestos
- An exact number of years the roof has left
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

How the survey works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take between one and two hours for an extension, garage or dormer roof, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial flat roof. In a hamlet or village like Trumps Green, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we go through the roof, what’s beneath it and any problems so far.
- The roof is viewed from safe positions, including the roof itself where that’s safe.
- The covering is checked for wear, splits, blisters and standing water.
- Upstands, outlets, edge trims and rooflights are checked and photographed.
- The report, with photographs and recommendations, comes to you by email.
Getting ready for the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

GRP fibreglass
GRP roofs are laid as a resin and glass-fibre layer over boards. We look for cracks at board joints, around trims and at upstands.
EPDM rubber
Lifting at the edges and loose areas of membrane are common EPDM problems. Any we find are noted and photographed.
FAQs for Trumps Green
Is my home in Trumps Green listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Trumps Green?
Yes, Trumps Green is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Trumps Green as anywhere else.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Normally, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when booking.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we will explain what’s needed.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take about one to two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. You’ll then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when you book.
Flat roofs in Trumps Green
Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Flat roofs fill the gaps in between, on extensions, garages, dormers and business premises. About 2.2 miles south-east lies Botleys Mansion, a reminder of how long the area around Trumps Green has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.
Take an older house close to Christ Church: the flat roofs on later extensions tend to wear out long before the main roof. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Trumps Green Infant School, ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season. If you own a rental within reach of Virginia Water station, flat roofs on let property tend to be checked only when they fail, which is the costly way round.

Useful tips for Trumps Green property owners
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Never stand on rooflights or fragile sheeting
- Note any new marks on ceilings beneath the roof
- Have the roof looked at again after a severe storm
- Note the date and type of any roof work
Questions about the findings are always welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, giving you a chance to go through what we found.
Keep foot traffic on a flat roof to a minimum. Where someone does need access, ask them to use boards or a protected route, and remind them never to step on rooflights or fragile sheets.
