Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Gidea Park

We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Gidea Park and right across London and the South East. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, from ground level, from windows and from the loft space. A visit normally takes about one to two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. If you are worried about rotten fascias or stained soffits and leaking or loose downpipes, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Much of London’s housing is flats, in converted houses or purpose-built blocks, where the roof is normally a shared part of the building. Whoever looks after the building needs a clear picture of the roof, chimneys and gutters. Leaks from a shared roof rarely affect just one home. With a written report and photos, everyone can plan from the same facts.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Can I check my roof myself?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Common roof problems in Gidea Park

Lots of tiled and slate roofs carry moss, and heavy rain washes clumps of it into the gutters. With grit from the coverings, it forms a thick sludge that holds water in the gutter and gives plants somewhere to grow.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Sagging gutters and loose brackets
  • Water backing up from a hidden gutter
  • Hoppers and outlets full of debris
  • Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water

If you run a business near The Mercury Mall, a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Their insurance cover
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

What a roof survey includes

Your questions about gutter surveys in Gidea Park

Is parking a problem for a survey in Gidea Park?

Usually it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

How do I find out if my home in Gidea Park is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?

The survey looks at whether rainwater is spilling onto the wall from overflows, leaking joints or loose downpipes. We can’t see inside walls, so we report on what’s visible.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

Will I get photos?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

How quickly is the report sent?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when you book.

What we cannot see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
  • Underground drains, which need a CCTV drain survey
  • Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. For a visit in Gidea Park, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at whatever is safely visible from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. We ask about overflows, damp or leaks you’ve noticed.
  2. We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground and from windows.
  3. We check hidden gutters, like valleys and parapets, where it is safe to see them.
  4. Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
  5. We send a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Before the survey

Gidea Park homes and their roofs

In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. Hare Hall, about 0.6 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Gidea Park. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Trees in and around Raphael Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Royal Liberty School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.
