Drone roof survey in Hill Grove
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. Common reasons to book are moss and weeds taking hold up top and chimney tops in poor condition, on fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Hill Grove are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Airspace, weather and Hill Grove roofs
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Barnabas, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Take a building like Swanmore Church of England Aided Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

How it works
A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. It typically takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around Hill Grove, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Roof by roof
Ridges and hips
The ridge takes wind from both sides. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate usually means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Honest limits
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What affects the price in Hill Grove
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- Which survey package you book
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- House, block, shop or office
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Helping us price your survey
We’ll normally ask about:
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Hill Grove
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hill Grove?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you cover smaller places like Hill Grove?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we will recommend the right survey. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
Does someone need to be in?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
We point the camera at your roof only. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible. It helps to tell neighbours beforehand.
