About our drone roof survey in Queen's Park

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it is not safe. Typical surveys look at wind damage high on the roof and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, across tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Queen's Park, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos. As for time on site, it usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know as you book.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Related advice

Can I check my roof myself?

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Why act early in Queen's Park

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we check:

  • How big the roof is
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The shape of the roof and its details

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, tell us:

  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We will confirm the price before booking.

Useful tips for Queen's Park property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Common questions in Queen's Park

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Queen's Park?

Usually it’s manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Queen's Park?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

We take care around neighbouring homes. We photograph your roof, not your neighbours’ property. It is worth telling neighbours about the flight.

Does your drone take thermal images?

No, the drone survey is photographic. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

Drone roof surveys around Queen's Park

Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, often with Welsh slate roofs. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. Lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are typical of these houses, if yours is one of them. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Winfield House, about 1.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Queen's Park. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. If you run a business near O2 Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. For an older house near a landmark such as West Kilburn Baptist Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Queen's Park is about 2 miles south-west of Hampstead, in Greater London. Queen's Park is part of the area we cover and the surrounding area as part of our work across London and South East England. Across Greater London, we cover Queen's Park.

For a walk, there is Greville Place nature reserve and Primrose Hill.

Different roofs, different checks

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. It’s almost impossible to see from ground level, but a drone shows it clearly.

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.
