Drone roof surveys near White City

Drone roof survey in White City: what you get

Drone roof surveys are available in White City and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Common reasons to book are loose ridge and hip tiles and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, across valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Questions from White City

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in White City?

Parking in White City, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when you book.

How do I find out if my home in White City is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only if it’s safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Is White City in your area?

Yes. We survey roofs in White City and the rest of Greater London, as part of our work across London and South East England. To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

How experienced are you?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

How long will you be at the property?

Typically, it takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.

What happens on the day

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in White City we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Advice

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.

Why act early in White City

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. In White City, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs

Checking the roof from ground level

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What a drone roof survey looks like in White City

White City is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that can’t be seen from the pavement. If your home in White City is one of them, lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are part of the picture too. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Leighton House lies about 1.3 miles south-east, so building around White City goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Hotels and guest houses near White City can’t easily close rooms for a leak, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. If you look after a building like Ark Swift Primary Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
