Strand-on-the-Green Gutter Survey
Find out the condition of the gutter at your property in Strand-on-the-Green. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
Do you need a gutter survey in Strand-on-the-Green?
Sometimes a gutter struggles with the area of roof draining into it. Added roof area from an extension can load an older gutter and the weakness shows in a heavy downpour.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Joints that drip after rain
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
If you live in an older home near St Paul's Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
Questions to ask before you book
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Their report turnaround times
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- What insurance they carry
Gutter survey in Strand-on-the-Green
Gutters have to slope gently towards the outlet or water sits in them. Sagging brackets and slipped joints leave water standing and overflowing where the gutter dips. We check the line of each run as far as we can see it and look at the brackets and downpipe clips. You get written recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. Typical surveys look at choked outlets or hopper heads and soffits marked by water, on valley gutters, outlets and hoppers and downpipes.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces are found right across London, often with slate roofs, chimney stacks shared with neighbours and gutters hidden behind parapets. Good slates can last over a hundred years, yet the nails often give out first and let slates slip. In Strand-on-the-Green, as across London, that is why a roof needs a proper look rather than a glance from the street. Shared chimney stacks and the lead around them are just as important to check.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Strand-on-the-Green homes and their roofs
Historic houses like Kew Palace, about 0.7 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Strand-on-the-Green goes. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Outer London has plenty of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
Homes near green spaces such as Kew Green can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you run a business near Livat Hammersmith, a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions.

What happens if roof problems are left?
When a valley or parapet gutter blocks, the water has nowhere safe to go. It can overflow into the building typically during the worst downpours. Having them checked before autumn and winter makes sense. Any roof job in Strand-on-the-Green means planning around parking, neighbours and access. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

The survey, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. In Strand-on-the-Green, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us as you book.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Before we arrive
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Before and after the survey
You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Have overhanging branches cut back
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Check downpipe clips are holding
Once work is carried out, keep an eye on the gutters in the next downpour. Water should run to the outlets and away without spilling over. If it does not, tell whoever did the work.
Hidden gutters need clearing too. They collect leaves and silt just like eaves gutters but they’re much harder to spot, so ask for them to be included when gutters are cleared.
What a gutter survey doesn’t cover
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
- The inside of buried drains
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

Questions from Strand-on-the-Green
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Chiswick station?
Yes, letting agents and landlords book with us as well as owners. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the building, including who will give access on the day.
How do I find out if my home in Strand-on-the-Green is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
Is a Saturday or Sunday visit possible?
Yes, weekend visits are possible as well as weekdays. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
Will you look at parapet and box gutters as well?
Yes. Hidden gutters are a common cause of leaks inside so we pay close attention to them. Parts of them may not be visible, and the report says so.
