Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in The City
Leaves, moss and silt are the usual reasons gutters block. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. Photos show each problem clearly. Blocked gutters are easy to put off, but they rarely get better. Common reasons to book are brackets that have dropped or snapped and blocked outlets and hoppers, on outlets and hoppers, eaves gutters and downpipes.
Somewhere as small as The City, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it is normally the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Practical tips
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:
- Make sure downpipe clips are holding
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Have overhanging branches cut back
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. It is sent to you by email once it’s done.
Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before the walls suffer.
Common questions in The City
I let a flat near Saunderton station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.
Is my home in The City listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
When does the report arrive?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Will you check if gutters are causing damp inside?
Leaking gutters and downpipes are a common cause of damp walls, and the survey looks for that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so, based on what we can see.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
How long will you be on site?
For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

Do you need a gutter survey in The City?
Sometimes a gutter struggles with the area of roof draining into it. Added roof area from an extension can load an older gutter, and a heavy downpour shows up the problem.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Gutters that have fallen out of line
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
If you live in an older home near Church of St Paul, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in The City
A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. West Wycombe Park House, about 2.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around The City. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
For landlords with property near Saunderton station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. Anyone responsible for a site like Radnage Church of England Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
The City is about 5 miles north-west of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. Whether the building in The City is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. Our Buckinghamshire coverage includes The City. We also survey roofs in Reading.
Here we cover the HP14 postcode area for gutter surveys. We cover properties on Bottle Square Lane, Radnage Common Road and Green Lane. Nearby, we also carry out gutter surveys in Waterend (1 mile west), Beacon's Bottom (1 mile south-west), Radnage (1 mile north), Bennett End (1 mile north-west) and Green End (1 mile south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Aylesbury (11 miles north), High Wycombe (5 miles south-east), Chesham (11 miles east), Marlow (7 miles south-east), Amersham (11 miles east) and Beaconsfield (10 miles east).
Local landmarks in The City
Typical jobs here are in homes near The Crown pub and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Saunderton station, about 1.8 miles north-east. A little further out are Wycombe Hospital (5 miles south-east). Open spaces near The City include Yoesden and Bald Hill.
Can I check my roof myself?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Different roofs, different checks
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Metal gutters are common on commercial buildings and some homes. Their joints and outlets still need checking.
Box and secret gutters
Box gutters sit within the roof or behind a wall, so overflows can end up inside. We check them where they can be seen safely.
Landlords, agents and block managers in The City
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
The survey, step by step
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Cottages and farmhouses around The City often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- We look at hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
