Questions from Hindhead
Do you cover Hindhead?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Hindhead is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Will you come out to Hindhead?
Yes. Hindhead is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.
What do I do with the report?
You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
Are you insured?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. The survey isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.
Thermal roof survey in Hindhead: what you get
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. If you’ve noticed damp that repairs haven’t cured and missing or slipped insulation, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Hindhead, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older rural homes like those around Hindhead can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Leave it or get it looked at?
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. In a place like Hindhead, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

Airspace, weather and Hindhead roofs
Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Take an older house close to Church of St Luke: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Hindhead
After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Cold areas below the roof
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
Take a building like St Edmund's School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- File the images with your roof records
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof, when the conditions are suitable.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
What we look for on each type of roof
Loft insulation
From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.
