Our roof survey service in IG2
Roof coverings last a long time, but not for ever. Slate often lasts a century or more, and tiles commonly half a century, yet nails, battens and underlay often fail first. A survey shows which parts of your roof are wearing. Knowing that helps you plan work before it becomes urgent. We are often asked to look into gutters that overflow in heavy rain and slates or tiles that have slipped or broken, on flat roofs, lead flashings and chimney stacks.
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building.
- You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, inside and out.
- Every part of the roof is checked and photographed.
- We email a report with photos and recommendations.

Booking a survey
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
What’s near Newbury Park
Around Newbury Park, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Valentines Park, Saint Laurence Church and Oaks Park High School, among other places. The closest station to Newbury Park is Seven Kings station, about 1 mile south-east of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Redbridge Museum (1.4 miles south) and Goodmayes Hospital (1 mile east). Green spaces nearby include Hainault Lodge and Hollow Pond.
Homes and roofs across IG2
From Ilford, Newbury Park and Gants Hill to its smaller places, buildings across IG2 have roofs of every age. Chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters are usually where the work is.
Several airports in London and South East England have flight restriction zones around them, so every drone flight in IG2 is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Flights that need permission only go ahead once it is given.
Newbury Park: Landlords with a home close to Seven Kings station may find that the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. If you live in an older home near Saint Laurence Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
For landlords and managing agents
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.
How we price roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The size of the roof
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Helping us price your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Anything about access we should know
- The property’s address and postcode
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- When you need the report by
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
When you need someone else
It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:
- A structural engineer’s report
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
Why get it checked now?
It’s easier to plan roof work than to react to it. With a report, you can tackle the urgent jobs first and plan the rest, rather than waiting for something to fail.
Before you book any surveyor
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- When you will get the report
- What happens after the report arrives
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
Questions from IG2
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
How quickly will I get the report?
It depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We send it by email.
Will you check the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.
Does the weather affect the survey?
A survey can normally go ahead in light rain. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.
Do you go up on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We also inspect from ground level, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. On Premium, a drone is used where applicable.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when booking.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when booking.
